The Director, Municipal Advisory and Capacity is an experienced leader who inspires and leads a team of three unit managers and their teams of professionals in providing expert advisory, training and support services to Alberta municipal officials, municipal administrators, senior ministry officials, and members of the public.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide governance and administrative support by managing capacity-building initiatives for municipalities.
  • Oversee training and development to ensure staff provide expert advice on relevant municipal legislation.
  • Manage municipal election support, offering legislative advice and ensuring timely, updated materials for local authority elections.
  • Develop and deliver training for municipal stakeholders in governance, finance, and administration.
  • Lead a municipal internship program, promoting career opportunities in municipal administration.
  • Support municipalities in fostering intermunicipal relations and providing dispute resolution resources.
  • Encourage municipal service excellence through recognition programs and promote innovative service delivery.
  • Manage Alberta’s improvement districts, ensuring compliance with legislative and budgetary requirements.
